Swan Hill

The regeneration of Swan Hill’s streetscape involved the development of a Master Plan which will guide the future development of public spaces and streetscapes within the CBD to enhance social, cultural and environmental visions.

The Master Plan proposes that Swan Hill’s point of difference will stem from its transformation from a once remote rural town on the Murray River, to a green and sustainable contemporary city with high quality streetscapes and public realm. Swan Hill has always seen the river as the source of its identity and this reconnection of the city to the river is a key consideration.

The aim is to implement a structural change to the physical appearance of Swan Hill, thereby improving the liveability and workability of the CBD. The plan re-prioritises pedestrians through improving pedestrian circulation and crossing points, introducing new shade structures at pedestrian points, and implementing significant street tree planting and WSUD initiatives to improve the use and quality of storm water.
