Marine Biological Station Park

Formerly a marine biological station in the late 19th century and more recently a military barracks, the re-designed Marine Biological Station Park is located on a site with a rich history.

ASPECT Studios worked to develop the scheme and provide construction documentation, in accordance with the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust’s plan of management and the master plan for the park.

The design responds to the site’s coastal location, and draws on existing materials and topography to facilitate public access to Camp Cove beach and provide a new waterfront park in which indigenous coastal vegetation is used to evoke the open forest sandstone vegetation and coastal swamp that once occurred on the site.

Large concrete slabs, engraved with words referencing the evolution of the site, form an informal path to the water’s edge and the beach front interface of stair access and massive block seating.
